Being an Amazon affiliate, I was wondering when the axe will fall.
Several states have decided that collecting sales tax is more important than jobs, property tax, and commercial growth.
Amazon decided to abandon several proposed or already built distribution centers where lawmakers say “we need the money!”
Affiliates have felt the sting too, as Amazon has cut them off.
Maybe cutoff is too harsh, but that is essentially the gist!
Buying over the internet to get a better price, no shipping, and yes saving the tax charges have been appealing to me for as long as the internet has existed.
Entrepreneurs who were and are smart enough years ago to see this potential of retail selling are the smart ones.
Many brick and mortar stores have not only boosted their sales through online transactions, but because of their sites their in store business is better because of local traffic knowing in their promotions.
I for one really hope Amazon can fight all this legislation successfully! Especially when in these economic times of a downfall saving money is always welcome.
Just think of just all the affiliates(now without affiliation) who may have been making a living from Amazon who would spend their earnings in their local stores (who collect sales tax) to boost the local economy.
Probably these numbers were never considered.
Are the big brick and mortar stores really that afraid of Amazon as to influence the lawmakers so?
Or should they be doing a better job themselves promoting their own store to get customers in?
I don’t mind paying sales tax if the item I need is a bargain and am appreciated in that particular store.
Amazon is now fighting about 12 states on this issue, when will the others follow?
Hang in there Amazon, I am with you!
